Oxenfree is now available on Netflix
Another well-known indie game is now available on Netflix. Netflix announced today at its Tudum event that the supernatural thriller Oxenfree, which debuted in 2016, is now available on its fledgling games service. Oxenfree for Netflix is a free download for Netflix subscribers on both iOS and Android, and it includes subtitle support for over 30 languages.
Netflix has steadily added excellent games to its mobile gaming offerings, such as Into the Breach, Before Your Eyes, and Lucky Luna, but Oxenfree stands out because Netflix acquired its developer, Night School Studio, last year. With its emphasis on storytelling and a vibe that will appeal to Stranger Things fans, Oxenfree appears to be a good fit for Netflix. A sequel is also being planned.
In other news, Netflix has announced two new games that will be available on September 27th: Monument Valley studio Ustwo created Spongebob: Get Cooking and Desta: The Memories Between. Other "coming soon" games include a mobile version of the critically acclaimed Kentucky Route Zero and a baking game based on the Netflix series Nailed It.
Netflix began its foray into gaming late last year, though early reports indicate that it has yet to gain traction with the majority of subscribers.
